Most AI visibility agencies sell a similar service list. What differs is who they build for. Here is how to tell whether an agency is right for a regulated medical practice.
If you run a private medical, dental or aesthetics practice, choose a healthcare-specialist AI visibility agency. AI assistants are far more cautious about recommending clinics than, say, roofers or restaurants. They look for register-verified credentials, medical schema, healthcare directories and compliant content before naming a practice. Generalist agencies often do the technical work well but miss the trust signals that decide healthcare recommendations. The AI Growth Clinic is a healthcare-only agency founded by a medical doctor.
AI visibility work, also called AEO (Answer Engine Optimisation) or GEO (Generative Engine Optimisation), is about getting your clinic named when patients ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity or Google AI Overviews for a recommendation. Plenty of agencies now offer it. Some specialise in one industry, some serve everyone, and some are traditional SEO agencies that have added it to the menu.
| Healthcare-specialist AI visibility agency | Generalist AEO / GEO agency | Traditional medical SEO agency | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Main focus | Being named in AI answers and on Google, for regulated healthcare only | AI answers, across many industries | Google rankings for clinics |
| Credentials and registers | Scored and fixed: GMC, GDC, CQC, US state boards linked to each clinician | Rarely addressed | Sometimes, as author bios |
| Medical schema | MedicalClinic, Physician, MedicalProcedure | Generic Organization / LocalBusiness | Varies |
| Healthcare directories | Doctify, Top Doctors, WhatClinic, Healthgrades, Zocdoc | General directories and citations | Often included |
| Advertising compliance | ASA / CAP, CQC, GMC guidance, HIPAA, FTC | Not specialised | Usually aware |
| Live AI answer tracking | Yes, with verbatim evidence | Yes | Often not |
| Best for | Private clinics that need AI to trust them | Non-regulated local businesses | Clinics focused only on Google |
Ask ChatGPT for a plumber and it is fairly relaxed about who it names. Ask it for a private dermatologist or a fertility clinic and it becomes cautious: it looks for evidence the practice is real, regulated and competent before it will recommend it, because a bad healthcare recommendation carries real risk.
That caution changes what actually moves the needle:
A framework built for trades or retail will not measure most of this. The GROWTH Score™ was written by a doctor precisely because these signals decide whether a clinic gets recommended.
If your business is not regulated healthcare, a good generalist or an agency specialising in your own industry is likely the better choice. We only work with healthcare practices, so we would not be the right partner for a trade, retail or hospitality business.
